14 Music Director of the Welsh National Opera – 1987

Janacek operas conducted by Sir Charles were some of the jewels in the casket when Sir Charles became the Music Director of the Welsh National Opera in 1987. During his five year tenure with the Company he also programmed and then went on to record some works by English composers, notably Sullivan, Delius and Britten. Overseeing his recorded legacy there with him was Anthony Freud – he was the Welsh National Opera’s General Director at that time.
