The Prelude to Janacek’s Katya Kabanova, recorded by Charles Mackerras with the Pro Arte Orchestra in 1959. His crusade for Janacek was bringing the composer’s works a new large audience, and the brilliance and, notably, the style of his conducting in already a very wide ranging repertoire was bringing him a strong following. Recording companies were taking many bites of the cherry.
